Easy to book and easy to love, at $30 for an excellent meal, including wine. The impressive facade of the Emerson welcomes you in; make your way to the elevator, which may or may not have an attendant. There was no attendant when we arrived, so we took the elevator straight up to the rooftop.

Energetic music, a young business crowd, and a well-lit bar gave the place a buzz. Our host led us past two distinct areas of the covered rooftop, and into a third area, to seat us at a bar-height, under-lit table, near a fireplace.

Each week of the Meat Club, the Emerson invites you to enjoy their "three finest cuts, from three premium producers, cooked in three delectable ways, by acclaimed Head Chef Jeff Trotter."

The name The Emerson is inspired by Nineteenth Century American Essayist and Poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson. "A visionary," The Emerson's website states, "he believed life was to be lived, that parties were to be held, and if you were going to do something great, then you better have fun while you're doing it! 'It's a happy talent to know how to play,' -Ralph Waldo Emerson."

"Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience," Ralph Waldo Emerson is also quoted as saying. Head Chef Jeff Trotter took Emerson's advice when he braised the Hopkin's River short ribs for 16 hours; served with baked potato, coleslaw and delectable apple cider barbecue sauce.

My husband thoroughly enjoyed his 200g Ranger's Valley eye fillet, served with creamy garlic mushrooms, pancetta, and sourdough bread.

An impressive, world-class venue on Commercial Road in South Yarra, this unique night life destination offers more than a weekend of drinks and dancing for twenty-somethings; check out the meat club Thursdays this winter and book soon.
