Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV) - Nicholson Street, Footscray and the City of Maribyrnong bring you this 7th event of Emerge in the West 2017. This is a free festival aimed at community engagement in its multi-artform programming. Start planning to head out to Footscray's iconic Nicholson street on Saturday 20 May 2017 - 12.30pm to 730pm for a range of live music, contemporary and traditional dance, community programs, global fashion, pool competitions, children's workshops/activities and artistic collaborations and more.

The MAV EMERGE brings together emerging and refugee communities wanting to participate in the arts more. This form of cultural development builds an understanding of issues that surround migration and resettlement. Music being the universal language, program highlights include -

Nhatty Man & Gara - one of the most energetic acts to hit Australian stages.
One Spirit Africa Drum & Dance Company - promoting and sharing the music and culture of West Africa.
Sonik Waves - a Mauritian Cultural Band

The program also features All You Can Spit (MC project), RKM Global Fashion Show, Phoenix Youth FReeZA program, Abyssinian Circus Group, Panaruu Dancing Group (South Sudanese) Asylum Seeker Resource Centre performances, Melbourne Academy of Performing Arts dancers, face painting, Cultural Walking tours with AASBA and a Winter Craft Market and many more stalls, workshops and performances throughout the day, so come along and have some fun!
