Beauty in Burleigh
On Connor street
Looking for some pampering on a rare night away from my young family, I booked a treatment package at Elysium in Burleigh Heads, after finding them online.
Booking was simple, I completed the online form and almost immediately a lady called to talk through what appointments they had and what I wanted - she was very chatty and friendly and instantly I started to look forward to my session.
Elysium - meaning a place of beauty or paradise - is a very cute beauty salon located on Connor Street, the building is quite unassuming amongst all the cafés and people along that street, so-much-so that I walked past it twice before I found it. They offer all kinds of treatments including massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, make up and waxing.
Once I was inside I had a few minutes to wait, the lady on the front desk was again friendly and chatty and I felt I was in good hands. My therapist came to collect me for my Elysium Touch package which consisted of a back, neck and shoulder massage, aroma express facial and hot oil scalp massage.
Relaxing treatment room
The room was, as you would expect, cosy and tranquil with candles and a warm scented aroma - the music was great too, a little bit of funky jazz, as apposed to the usual panpipes or running water. I was mentally having a little jig whilst lying there.
I do struggle to relax so feeling comfortable is really important for me, the therapist asked if there were any issues I was concerned with, or any skin or muscle worries that she could help with. I think this is one of the only times a masseur has asked me what I want and if there was any advice I wanted - it made me feel like I was really getting a tailored session. She explained exactly what she would be doing, what creams and oils she was using and what her movements would be throughout and when she would pop out of the room.
Something to suit everyone
The massage was gentle and calming but it was the facial and hot oil scalp massage that really got me to relax, I can't shut my brain off with ease, but I did at times throughout find that I wasn't thinking about anything, which was amazing.
What I especially liked was that it was really quiet, I have been to places where you can here noise on reception or a delivery arriving, or people chatting outside the treatment room, which in my opinion just spoils the moment.
I think in this busy online world, to switch off and pamper ourselves occasionally makes us better in everyday life, I know that I am a better mum when I give myself - dispute the guilt - some time away just for me.
I would absolutely go there again for the same package or another treatment - I think the package deals are the best value and you still get the full time for each aspect, so it is certainly designing a package that suits your needs.
If there was one improvement it would be that after you are finished and get dressed, it would be great to have a quiet room to sit and have a water or tea, to just relax a little longer. I find after being taken to a place of relaxation, to then be straight back to reality on a busy sunny street, slightly undoes some of the work. Or perhaps I just want to extend the experience a while longer, which isn't a bad thing.
