Anyone who has ever into the Melbourne CBD - or driven down the Nepean Highway to the South-East suburbs - would likely recognise the iconic Victoria Bitter sign that sits atop the Elsternwick Hotel.

Given its bright neon green glow and similarly recognisable status to the Nylex Sign and the Skipping Vinegar Girl, many may well be already familiar with the that sits beneath it. Yet, for those that are not, it is worth considering a visit.

Located within some stylish and beautifully appointed surrounds - with leather seats, wooden panels and even a piano - the Hotel very much evokes a history of a place in operation since 1854. Yet, despite the timeless quality of the interior, this is indeed a very modern institution. The bistro serves tasty dishes from Greek lamb salad to butternut pumpkin ravioli - and of course, the beloved Chicken parma.

As well as the modern pub menu the Hotel also is a live music venue with regular performances. Getting here is an easy undertaking. Alongside the chance to arrive by car, there are also multiple trams running by in close vicinity.

Accordingly, the close by presence of Elsternwick Park shouldn't go unmentioned. While the writer is not suggesting the park and pub is an ideal combination for a outing on a Friday night, rather, on a sunny Winter's day it can represent a nice option to stop in for lunch or dinner with family after a day out in the sun.
