Situated in the south of Sydney is a unique patisserie that specialises in low fat cheese and mousse cakes. Perfect for the health conscious, Ella's Patisserie is a local's favourite where lightly sweetened but wondrously delicious cakes are perfected. The cafe is run by Ella, who completed her apprenticeship at the renowned Lucullus Cake Shop in Hong Kong and later studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Australia.
Upon entering the cafe, you are immediately transported to a quirky pink wonderland. It's pink all around with its various shades adorning the cafe's logo, walls, plush sofas and the uniform of its waitresses. The glass cabinets are decorated with many examples of Ella's individualistic cake creations and various cartoon figurines like Betty Boop and Hello Kitty. Do check out the monogram Louis Vuitton cake they have on display right behind Betty. I swear it looks absolutely real!
The range of cakes found at the patisserie is a true reflection of Ella's own training in both French and Asian pastry techniques. Her glass cake cabinet houses old-time favourites like New York cheesecakes, Swiss cheesecakes and chocolate mousse cakes. Alongside these, you will find some Asian-inspired cakes, slices and tarts made with green tea, red bean, lychee, black sesame and tofu. A special mention goes to the black sesame cheesecake. With the real taste of black sesame densely coupled with a creamy but light cheese taste - the black sesame cheesecake is definitely worth a try.
You can also commission Ella to design and create an edible masterpiece for any of your special occasions. Whether it be a soccer ball birthday cake, tiered wedding cake or love heart anniversary cake, the patisserie is asked to make unique creations on a regular basis. You can check out Ella's past works in their photo album at front of the store. If anything, a quick flip through the pages will get you revved up for more cake.
Ella's Patisserie is definitely worth a visit whether you're in the area for a chat over cake and coffee. I'll be there again this weekend. Hope I'll bump into you!
