Fine Tea and Coffee House
While getting lost the other day, I decided to stop and get a coffee on the way home. I happened to find a park outside a very ordinary looking block of shops next to the Library. There in the middle was Eliza's Place. It looked clean and cute, so I went in.
Don't be put off. Inside is delightful. All images by writer,
After a fair amount of dithering, I settled on the rich chocolate fudge cake. The serving was rather large and I did not expect I would be able to finish it. However, it was so light and delicious I had no trouble at all.
After chatting to the owner, Genny (no not Eliza), I discovered that she makes everything. After 15 years in the business, she has certainly got cooking down to a fine art.
As well as stocking and running the cafe, she also offers celebration cakes, teatime cakes and quiches which are made to order for functions, catering and high teas. Catering starts at $10 per head for a minimum of 12.
Cakes cost $28 for 10 - 12 serve size and $36 for 12-16 serves. Quiche is $30 or $36.
If you have a birthday, luncheon, christening or bridal shower coming up, I'd suggest chatting to the staff. You do need to order 2 days in advance ( a week for large functions).
I'm planning to take a group of friends to a High Tea. At $35 a head, we can't go wrong. Fax on 32783414 or phone 2 days ahead to book.
There is also a selection of simple but well-presented gifts.
A selection of gifts.
Eliza's Place is at Shop 2, 625 Oxley Rd Corinda, opposite the Coles centre.
