This 6.85 hectare reserve was quite a find. It has an extensive network or walking tracks, mostly asphalt, meandering among many old and new trees and shrubs and large grassy areas.

A feature of this reserve is three ponds, which act as flood retarding basins in times of heavy rainfall. They are host to areas of lush reeds, which in turn act as hosts to many water birds.

Ducks appear to be the main inhabitants, followed by numerous swamp hens and the odd cormorant. Non-water birds sighted were an eastern rosella, pigeons and the everywhere magpies.

An extensive playground with lots of different playthings will keep the young well occupied while parents watch from the numerous seating available.

There are toilet facilities provided in a hard to miss location, all adorned with bright wall art paintings.

As you wander along the numerous pathways, there are frequent resting spots with shady park benches.

Having asphalt paths means they are very wheelchair friendly, although the eastern end of the reserve is a little undulating unless you have a fit strong pusher that section could be out of bounds. Avoiding the steeper parts will not deprive you of enjoying most of the reserve, particularly the ponds.

Other features of the reserve are BBQ facilities and an amphitheatre.

My visit was on a weekday, but I can imagine on a weekend the paths would be full of walkers, joggers, and dog walkers, but the reserve is large enough to cater for the multitudes without being crowded.

In some parts, the distant hum of traffic on Durham Road can be heard, but it does not distract from the enjoyment of the area.

Children will love the easy walks, the playground and getting close-up views of the water birds.

There is a small off-road car par

This is one reserve worth seeking out for an enjoyable stroll or rest.
