My visit to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was an amazing experience with the elephants. It's a great experience to get a close-up view and interact with these gentle giants.
Pinnawela is well-known for having one of the world's biggest elephant orphanages. To preserve endangered elephants and offer a breeding environment for them, the orphanage was established in the first place. It is situated in a lush 25-acre coconut plantation next to the Maha Oya River and is home to a huge herd of 88 elephants, who may be seen roaming freely.
Pinnawela has developed a reputation as one of Sri Lanka's most popular tourist attractions throughout the years, dating back to its founding in the 1970s. Elephants and their lifestyle are the primary attraction of Pinnawella, which is a safe setting where guests can watch them in their natural habitat. The main attraction is seeing elephants taking a bath in the river.
Baby elephants and adult elephants swim about in the shallow water, and you have the opportunity to photograph each of these precious moments as they unfold. The feeding procedure that takes place in the nurseries is something you should not miss out on. Bottle feeding young elephants is a wonderful event that you should not miss. Pinnawela is situated close to Kandy, making it possible to complete the journey in a few hours.
