Following the success of its first branch in the Adelaide CBD, Elementary Coffee has opened a second branch at Jervois Street in Torrensville. The dishes served here consist of various brunch-style dishes which are unique. If they wish, customers can have a peek at the coffee roaster used to roast the coffee beans.
Their Pork Benedict uniquely featured pork hock cooked in a master-stock broth, which made it very tender and gave it a distinctive savoury taste. The poached eggs topping the pork had lovely runny yolks, and some of the broth was served with the dish for dipping the sourdough toast in. The fermented chilli hollandaise with its slightly spicy taste complemented the pork nicely.

Their Eggplant Fritters were fried to golden brown and had a firm texture. The house-made barbeque sauce provided a delectable smoky flavour, and the garlic miso dressing used to dress the rocket salad gave the dish a bit of an Asian flair. Pickled onions were also included in the salad for a hint of tanginess. Those that want a more filling dish can add eggs or bacon for an extra cost.

The Nashville fried chicken in the Crispy Chicken Burger was juicy with a crisp coating. Its spiciness was balanced by the cucumber salad, which provided a bit of freshness to the burger. Served with the burger were chips fried to a golden brown. They had a moreish flavour from the seasoning they were tossed in.

We liked that the spring onion waffles in the Gochujang Chicken Tenders Waffles dish were light and fluffy and did not taste too sweet. However, we thought it would be tastier if the spring onion flavour was more pronounced. The chicken tenders topping the waffles had succulent flesh and the spiciness of the gochujang sauce should be suitable for most tastes. A drizzling of smoked maple syrup added a bit of sweetness to the dish.

The eggs that we chose to have scrambled for our Eggs Your Way were light and fluffy, and the sourdough was toasted to the right degree. For the extra ingredients that you can add, we went with bacon, mushroom and avocado & pea salad. The mushroom was very juicy and the bacon had a delectable smoky flavour.

While it may not look like a lot at first glance, there was sufficient salmon in the 50 Degree Salmon to make it a satisfying meal. Pickled beetroot provided a touch of sweetness and the horseradish puree added a sharp element to the dish. Finishing the dish were lovely soft caramel eggs, dark rye bread that was not too tough and dill oil.

The décor of the café gave it a modern feel and plants along the wall provided greenery. If they wish, customers can purchase their coffee blends to brew at home at their own leisure.
