Element by Westin, part of the Marriott brand, just opened the Element Melbourne in the new Botanicca Corporate Park just off Swan Street in Richmond.

The hotel differs from other flash new hotels for while it offers a streamlined, modern and blissful stay, it also ensures you don't miss out on the important things in like such as the company of your precious pet and the healthy routine you likely keep up at home.

Bringing Fido

A holiday normally means sending Fido to a kennel or a pet sitter. This is an added expense and you can't always fully relax knowing your best friend is probably pining for you. The allows guests to bring their dog (by pre-arrangement). We are talking pet beds, toys and even a dog-friendly minibar.

They can't dine in the restaurant with you but there are plenty of outside eating areas and room service.

Dogs have their own printed menu. You may have to read it to them and be guided when they wag their tail. Choices include chicken breast with roasted cauliflower, market-fresh fish with steamed carrot and the Quarter Hounder, pan-fried steak with green veggies. I assume you'll be asked how your dog likes his steak cooked.

I attended the opening and dogs took pride of place. They had their own pet grooming station, cakes and treats. I hadn't seen such an array of breeds since the page of Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy. There were poodles, pointers, dachshunds, and the short-haired and curly.

Some pet owners had even teamed outfits to match their canines.

Pet owners can only stay with their pooch in certain dedicated rooms. The majority of the rooms are for humans only. Bringing your dog involves a special cleaning fee of $80.

But it is a once-off. So the longer you stay the more economical it becomes. And for those fortunate enough to have a cleaner at home it simply replaces the cost of paying for housecleaning that week.

**Let's Stay Healthy
**

A lot of people try and maintain healthy routines at home. Trouble is that when you go on holidays this can fall apart at the first hotel buffet breakfast. But not at Element. The hotel promotes a balanced approach to living and travel.

They offer the Rise breakfast, with chef-made omelettes, and even a fresh fruit and yoghurt station. A Restore grab-and-go pantry is available to purchase snacks and food items to prepare in one's room.

As Element is on the banks of the Yarra River, it is easy to go for a walk, or a run. You can cycle all the way into the city along this popular bike trail if you choose. There is a complimentary Bikes-to-Borrow program.

You also have access to a 24/7 Motion Fitness centre fitted with the latest Technogym Equipment that offers yoga classes and there is even a mat in the outdoor igloo if you would like to do your yoga outside.

But don't forget Fido as beautiful parks abound.

State of the Art Design

Element was designed by award-winning Melbourne architects, Rothelowman, and the striking curved façade mirrors the winding Yarra River. Interior spaces, connect guests with the locale as the Australian flora in the hotel's surrounds inspires the tones.

The lounge area with its huge fire and comfortable couches is a charming place to relax.

Plus, four days a week you are served complimentary local beers and wines and small bites.

An outdoor deck space provides sweeping views of Melbourne's CBD skyline.

Mint Lane Restaurant and Bar even offers an alfresco laneway mirroring, of course, one of Melbourne's chief attractions our inner-city laneways.

Eco-conscious ethos and comfort

The hotel offers an abundance of natural light, and eco-conscious touches such as energy-saving LED lighting, CO2 sensors monitoring air quality and water-saving taps and fixtures

The 163 guest rooms and five deluxe balcony king rooms include thoughtful touches like extra space, natural light, spa-inspired bathrooms, signature Heavenly® Bed, and high-speed Wi-Fi.

Some rooms also feature energy-efficient kitchenettes. Great if you are planning a longer stay, or travelling with a group.

Location

Richmond is a central location. While only a short distance from the city the wending Yarra River gives this part of Richmond a rural feel.

You are one kilometre from the Burnley Railway Station and the tram to the city is right outside.

Therefore, it is easy to go shopping in Richmond's Swan Street and reach places such as the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Victoria Arts Centre.

You don't really need a car, making it perfect for most people but especially overseas tourists.

The lovely people on reception are incredibly helpful. When my phone died they even printed out a Google map of how to complete the walk I was planning.

If you do happen to bring your vehicle there are some paid parking spaces on the property. But after 5 pm and during the weekends, there is free parking a stroll away along the Yarra Boulevard.

At present, there is an opening special at this great hotel that includes FREE BREAKFAST. Rooms range from $169 up. There are significant discounts for seniors (over 63). For more details click here .
