has a simple mission, to get people travelling on electric bikes. Cycling in Australia has become preserve of the Lycra clad exercise freaks and the occasional die hard commuter. Electric bikes are set to change all that.

Modern electric bikes are pedal assisted, which means as you pedal the electric motors gives you a push. The harder you work the harder the motor works. This makes travelling long distances and tackling hills a breeze while still being active.

Different power settings means you can choose how much effort you want to put into the ride and how much assistance you would prefer. On the highest power setting, hills can feel like they are flat, while the lowest power setting helps you exercise. Of course you can turn off the power and just use it as a regular bicycle.

brings a wide range of quality power assisted bicycles to Brisbane.

Styles

Whether you are talking about fast & sporty road bikes, heavy duty cargo and touring bikes, rugged mountain bikes or small urban and folding bikes, you are certain to find one that fits your needs.

Prices

The cheapest models start at around $1,300 and go up to $8,000 for high perform models. A mid price range is $2,000-$3,000. While not cheap, they are certainly a good alternative to a car.

Performance

By law electric bikes provide a boost of 250 Watts up to 25 km per hour. Faster than that the motor cuts out and you have to do all the pedaling yourself. This means that the general performance of both cheaper and more expensive bikes is about the same. The real performance issue is how smooth the ride is and the level of acceleration provided.

One of the biggest issues is weight and distance. Most of the weight is the motor and the battery. A typical electric bicycle weighs 21-25 kg. Not too hard to lift up for most people but can be a little bit of a challenge. The lightest models I have seen are 15 kg and the heaviest is 30 kg.

When it comes to distance, a smaller cheaper bicycle can do around 40 kms in one recharge, while a good bicycle it will be more like 100 kms. Touring bikes can go even further. From experience, the distance can vary greatly and it is easy to exceed those distances while lots of hills and stops may reduce how far the electric bicycle can go.

Uses

The main reason people buy an electric bike is commuting. Though some older riders buy them as a way to get around their local area and still remain active. Personally I love touring a city on 2 wheels and electric bikes makes this a less strenuous option and rent bicycles for this purpose.

Another option are for those wanting to do a long bicycle journey but are worried about the effort required and the mountains they may encounter on the way. Electric bikes are a great way to do any bicycle journey.
