Well, this is certainly one way to (literally) lift up your spirits - particularly the Gin kind!
I want to share with you one of the most impressive ways in which I was served a beautiful, sapphire-coloured cocktail. It was levitating on a disc powered by liquid nitrogen and it was, hands down, one of the coolest things I've ever experienced at a bar!
So, what's this all about? Well, Electra House has joined forces with Bombay Sapphire to bring you a ginnovation of sorts, where they have rounded up a bunch of Gin-tastic levitating cocktails, thanks to Chad Hanson (owner and operator of Electra House). Hanson recently won the Creator Grant in the inaugural 'Bombay Sapphire Glasshouse Project', which is a national campaign that launched mid-2019 and engaged bartenders to unlock their creative potential. From 60 of Australia's most creative bartenders, it was Chad's innovative idea of incorporating the Bombay Sapphire Gin into a concept that would involve themes of sustainability, liquid, design and overall experience, which won him a $20,000 Bombay Sapphire Creative Grant.
Growing up watching old Western movies, there was one scene repeated in a number of movies that has always stuck in my mind, and that's the classic 'sliding glass of brown liquor down a bar' scene. I was looking to bring that concept into the 21st century. The idea is to recreate that classic bar slide by levitating the glass from one end of the bar to another, which has never been done before here in Adelaide, let alone, Australia or the rest of the world! - Chad Hanson
Using Quantum Levitation, Chad and Bombay Sapphire have brought his idea to life, and staying true to the brand, the experience is aptly named 'The Sapphire Serve.' Among the choices of drinks, there are a variety of cocktails with Bombay Sapphire as the key ingredient to offer its patrons with different strengths of drinks to enjoy in style. Key drinks (and personal favourites) include:
the signature Gin and Tonic with Gin, Clementine Tonic, green capsicum, and garnished with coriander leaves that offers a refreshing taste of summer in a glass,
the Native Gin Cooler with Gin, Davidson plum, Rosella flower, mountain pepper berry, sugar, saline and topped with soda, which is ideal for those who love floral and sugary sweet tones after a long day at work,
the Field Negroni with Gin, strawberry Vermouth and watermelon rind Campari, which has a fun and vibrant take on one of the classics in signature cocktails,
the Bombay Gibson Martini with Gin, dry Vermouth, and lemon zest, which is not for the faint-hearted and love their drink sipped (not slurped).
Balmy summer nights out in town, particularly during the Adelaide Fringe and Mad March period of the year will now be taken to the next level of luxury and comfort thanks to the floating cocktails that will be sliding down the bar at Electra House.
The Sapphire Serve is now exclusively available to the public at Electra House for a limited time only.
