How good is not cooking Sunday breakfast? Read on
Sunday breakfast at a local cafe has become my regular reward for successfully negotiating a busy week. As well as not having to prepare, cook and clean, it means being able to slow down and just relax. I work extremely hard at making the Sabbath a day of rest.
How popular has Sunday breakfast become in your local area? Down my way, in the heart of the Redlands along the coastline of beautiful Moreton Bay, cafes are opening earlier than ever to cater for the ever growing wave of early risers who are savouring those cooler early morning walks, bike rides and general gadding about before the heat settles in.
So it was great to discover a venue only minutes out of Cleveland where you can enjoy a Sunday brekkie and not have to weave through busy pavements or queue for a clean table.
Elaine's on Gordon, on the corner of Gordon and Bainbridge Street, Ormiston, has both indoor and outdoor seating. It is casual and inviting with a selection of magazines to encourage diners to slow down, as well as a water bowl for the family dog. It is one of those places that you would feel comfortable taking your kiddies into for a meal or a milkshake. The little ones get fed and gain some dining training, and mum and dad aren't going to get apoplexy if they leave with crumbs all over the floor. The cafe has that really relaxed family vibe.
As usual, The Squeeze forced himself to select 'The Big Breakfast'. Doesn't it make you green with envy when skinny people can eat, and eat, and eat, and not put on any weight?
Elaine's on Gordon also stays open for tea on Friday evenings, catering for family nights out, with lasagne, burgers, fish, and gourmet pies on the menu. It is BYO, with no corkage fee, so mum and dad can also unwind. What a great start to any weekend.
Ormiston benefits from the bay breezes and the surrounding trees only add to the feeling of spaciousness. The topography is mostly flat so if you are a walker stopping at Elaine's on Gordon for a takeaway coffee is a definite incentive.
There is also plentiful off-street parking which again makes this cafe a good option compared to those in neighbouring suburbs. The less frantic pace was a wonderful start to our Sunday.
