El Pronto Cafe

I was drawn in by El Pronto's colourful exterior. It's hard to walk past a café with speech bubbles, bragging about how their food and coffee is, painted onto the windows. It helps that there are few other eateries in the immediate vicinity save for a few tired looking pubs.
There were plenty of choices with a huge selection of exciting looking dishes, but I decided on the pasta bake. Once I got it, it looked hideous to be quite honest, but that didn't stop it from being tasty. It looked more appetising behind the counter while in one piece, but it got squashed into a cheesy mess on my plate. However, the ugliest food can sometimes be surprisingly delicious. Crunchy and cheesy all at once, the pasta bake was the sort of comfort food that you don't expect to chance upon in a quiet corner of Carlton.
El Pronto also offers a selection of hot food such as schnitzels and other pasta dishes, as well as healthier salad and sandwich choices. A small display of cakes also looked rather tempting.
For a low-key corner café, El Pronto is quite a decent place. My only concern was that the café tables weren't particularly clean looking, but the food display looked fresh as well as sanitary. Construction work aplenty nearby means that there is a steady stream of hungry tradies. There seem to be few diners there at any one time though, with only one person staffing the place when I popped in at lunchtime on a weekday. Soft music stops the place from being totally silent, and the huge windows meant it was filled with light to stop it from being the dingy corner café it might otherwise be. El Pronto can best be described as comfortable; a relaxing place to take a long lunch break.
