The Beresford on Bourke St, has colourful tables outside for eating and drinking in the summer (these are taken in by about 10pm though for the benefit of the neighbours). The front lounge is still a bar but the back part is converted into a

It was fairly lively even for a rainy Tuesday night, and teeming with stylish stick-legged Surry Hillians.
My friend had the steak $15, and I had the fish w/ salsa verde $15, which was delicious. I'm not sure what kind of fish it actually was but it was meaty, tender and crispy skinned, served with a spicy salsa verde and some kind of fennel/celeriac salad. It worked really well with the flavour of the fish and lots of spicy piquant sauce on the side which made my eye sockets sweat a bit.

My friend also had a big hotdog afterwards, which was covered in a snowy mountain of shredded cheese and only $8.
All in all it was a good value meal in a nice lively venue.
