Long established in Granville, the family-run El-Jannah restaurant has now opened in Penrith. Located on High Street, just outside the Penrith Westfield Shopping Centre, El Jannah is a combination of quick takeaway and casual family restaurant.

Tables were set up to accommodate large groups with booths easily housing a large family with many kids. The modern, dark wood decor was spacious and clean, and differentiated El Jannah from just your suburban takeaway charcoal chicken and burger joint.

The menu is a cross between charcoal chicken, burgers and Lebanese with takeaway prices to match.

I chose the Chicken Schnitzel Meal which came with a freshly prepared Mediterranean salad and a large portion of chips.



The schnitzel was a decent size, the salad was crisp though next time I'd order the dressing on the side. The chips automatically came with chicken salt which was a nice touch, rarely found in a restaurant and the large serving of gravy came included in the cost. For $14.50, the chicken schnitzel meal was definitely good value.



The menu included burgers, rolls and a number of options centered around charcoal chickens. Many meals were under $10 for dine-in and takeaway prices were even cheaper. The meals came with a choice of side salad which included coleslaw, garden salad, tabouli, fatoush and Mediterranean.

The family meal ($33.90 takeaway), which included two whole chickens, large chips, and a 1.25L bottle of soft-drink, would easily fill up a family with leftovers for lunch. Meanwhile the falafel plate at $7.90 is great value for vegetarians.



Parking outside on High Street was limited during the lunchtime rush but there is always parking available in the Westfield Shopping Centre nearby.

El-Jannah is only a few doors down from the discount designer goods store, TK Maxx . So after you've spent too much on gorgeous clothes and handbags, you can still afford to eat at El-Jannah.

Overall El-Jannah offers cheap but quality dining, with a menu to suit all tastebuds, giving families a viable option for lunch or dinner.
