The El Fresco Deli Café on Bentleigh's Centre Road shopping strip is a cheap and cheerful place to stop for breakfast, lunch or a coffee.
They have an extensive menu featuring breakfast dishes, pasta, risotto, pancakes and more, with daily specials written across the shop's many mirrors and chalkboards. However, I opted for a spinach and ricotta pastry, which came served with a garden salad.

Combined with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, my meal came to a total of a mere $16.

Meanwhile, my friend ordered a chicken and gnocchi dish with Napoli sauce. The bowl was deeper than it looks in the picture, but the serving size was still on the small side. Both meals came garnished with what seemed to be a crispy slither of pumpkin.

Our food did not come out at the same time. They somehow managed to bring out the gnocchi first, even though my pastry just needed to be heated up. It was also quite a long wait for our drinks to come out. However, the food was tasty and the prices impressively low enough to justify the wait.
