Sitting under a shady umbrella, I'm just watching the world go by. It's just another morning at El Divo Espresso Bar, a charming suburban coffee shop on the corner of Swann Road and Princess Street, right where St Lucia releases its hold on the neighbourhood, and slides into Taringa.
Surrounding me are couples enjoying a quick before-work breakfast, dog walkers enjoying some quality time with their charges, and locals like me, desperately trying to press the pause button on a world that's spinning too fast. With its open air seating, jungle-like foliage and lots of nooks and crannies in which to hide away and discuss the problems of the world (or just read about them in the courtesy-supplied newspapers), El Divo Espresso Bar seems like the perfect place to do it.

My coffee arrives. It's Colombian Reserve, a nutty, rich, smooth, strong brew derived from a blend of beans from Papua New Guinea, Colombia, Brazil and Ethiopia. Exotic, non? El Divo Espresso Bar offers a stripped-back menu featuring breakfast options such as bircher muesli and avocado-topped sourdough and lunch fare like quiches, rolls and filled filo pastries. An ample selection of baked goods, such as muffins, cupcakes and the like, are also up for grabs, making this a great spot to retreat, and take a few welcome breaths, before pressing the play button on your life again.
