El Campesino's original location in Pittsburgh is located on McKnight road. The one I am talking about is located in beautiful Wexford PA. This was one of the places that was not built when I first moved to Wexford, however, since El Campesino has been built, I go there as often as I can. It's nothing like any other Mexican restaurant I have been to in PA before. I have nothing but good things to say about El Campesino, the food, the drinks and the atmosphere.
The Food: This is just one of those restaurants where you can order anything on the menu and you know its going to be cooked to order, booming with flavors and absolutely satisfying. I usually go between two or three different meals, alternating when I feel like having something different. The first one is the Flautas - you get an order of four corn fried taquitos (two chicken and two beef) with lettuce, guacamole, tomato and sour cream - make sure you ask for extra guacamole because it's awesome! The second item I get is the Steak Bur-r-r-r-ito - Grilled steak topped with a white cheese cause served with rice and guacmole salad. Its simple and yet so darn good. This is made with good steak. Not crap, no shredded, none of that stuff they make steak-ums with. Real, quality steak. Yum!
The Atmosphere: I would say that this is without a doubt one of the most exciting and beautifully decorated Mexican restaurants I have ever been in - not counting Mexico in Orlando! As soon as you walk in you have those beautifully rich tones of orange, yellow and red. The back of the woods booths as well as the walls have a real authentic Mexican feel to them. Also, be sure to check out the hand painted murals on the walls as well as the "painted" brick around the arched windows - at first glace you think it's real, but it's not.
Seating: You have a variety of places to sit whether its at the bar, in the main dining area (tons of room) or if its a nice enough day outside, you can also sit outside on the back patio as well. The patio can be a little noisy depending on what time it is and how much traffic is down below. But, if you go on a quieter day or night you can actually hear the waterfall right next to the patio which belongs to the Village At Pine townhomes.
Service: The waiters and waitresses are always polite and professional as well as courteous and kind when it comes to being seated or answering any questions you may have. If you have health issues with the food (too spicy, allergies, etc), simply ask them to do it another way and they will gladly do it.
If you want a fantastic meal at one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area or you simply want to have a few Margarita's and sit back and relax on the back patio - El Campesino is definitely a place you need.
