Brisbane Plus August = Ekka
Every year Brisbane's August winds sweep through town and a distinctive and familiar call hangs in the air. What is it? It's the call of strawberry sundaes, showbags, fairy floss, fireworks, and the Grand Parade; it's the call of Brisbane's favourite show, the Ekka.

Ekka is part of Brisbane's DNA, just as surely as that big brown river, summer storms and jacarandas in springtime. They may have spent the last 12 months transforming the physical surroundings of the Ekka's spiritual home but some things will always be the same and your favourites are back for another year, along with a few surprises from Wednesday 8 to Saturday 17 August.

As always, there's a huge program of entertainment for the whole family.

For the kids there's the Peppa Pig Show, circus workshops, the Ronald McDonald and Friends show, and the children's roving entertainer, Ranger Ricky.

Everyone can enjoy the Daily Street Parade, get Zumba fever with the Latin Zumba Demos, view dare-devils and dreamers make World Record Attempts, or be amazed and mystified at Sam Powers' Magic & Illusion Show. And you can't miss Ekka Ignites 360, the Ekka's nightime fireworks and entertainment spectacular.

It just wouldn't be the Ekka without showbags and the Triple M Showbag Pavilion will be offering everything from AFL to Air Force 1, Bertie Beetle to Betty Boop, Monsters University to Mr Men, and Smarties to Smurfettes. You can do your showbag research online here to find the contents and prices of all bags and plan your attack by downloading the showbag pavilion map here.

Country Meets the City

Ekka is still the place where 'country meets the city'. In 2013 you can still enjoy the creative collections of produce in the Agricultural Hall displays, stud beef cattle judging, the Animal Boulevard with poultry, pidgeons and birds, bush poetry, all the fun of the woodchopping, skilful shearing demonstrations, and the kids' favourite, The Little Miracles Newborn Corner.

Food and Drink

Apart from the usual Ekka food favourites, there's plenty to wet you whistle and whet your appetite at this year's Ekka. Enjoy Royal Food and Wine Show Masterclasses, find out how to Cook the Perfect Steak, sample the goods on offer at the Woolworths Fresh Food Showcase, and learn about the Craft of Beer or Cider with Brisbane's own beer writer and educator, Matt Kirkegaard.

On the fashion front you can choose between workshops and mini-makeovers in the Make Up Solutions presented by 'Stefan', viewing creations from Australia's top designers at the CommBank Natural Fibres Fashion Parade, or the Sorbet Fashion Styling Workshops with Tracy Hames.
