Catch sight of Bunpin mythical creature at festival
2019 marks the 24th Einbunpin Festival, which is an annual event held on the last Sunday in July. The event has been held each year since 1992 and is a celebration by and for the community and all things that make the Sandgate district so special. The festival's committee is made up of several locals who volunteer and are passionate for others to experience the landscape, environment and vast artistic talents found in the Sandgate area.
The festival is held around the lagoon and parkland area in Brighton Road, which borders with Keogh, Lagoon Streets and Bowser Parade. As there is limited parking available, visitors are encouraged to take public transport as the area is close to the Sandgate Railway Station and Bus Interchange.
Visitors are invited to participate in the various activities and events during the day; a programme is found here. This is a family-filled fun day with heaps of stalls, entertainment by locals as well as games for everyone. If you wish to be a stall holders or entertainer, you can download application forms from the website. There are two different forms for Youth and Lily Stage performances.
Look out for Domino the Jester, Phoenix Fire Tribe and Ormiston Pipes & Drums who will be meandering throughout the crowd during the day. Keep your eye out for Bunpin, the mythical creature of the festival, as he loves getting his photograph taken.
Bunpin's are different by Bunyips; they come from the EinBunPin Lagoon and are a true magical creature, only found in the heart of Sandgate. Read more about their amazing story by Jeff Cheyne here.
Kids may like to submit an entry for the annual Einbunpin Poster Competition. Local artists and inspiring artists may like to enter the Magic Canvas Competition "Celebrating our Community" with prizes of $50 and $100. The competition pages will provide all information on how to enter.
The 2019 Einbunpin Festival is being held on Sunday 28th July from 9.00am to 4.00pm. Please note dogs are not allowed to this event.
