I love the Eggless Dessert Cafe. It doesn't matter what I order, I am never disappointed. Situated on Goodwood Road, opposite the Capri Theatre, as the name suggests, it is a lacto-vegetarian dessert place full of the most delicious treats one can find. Their menu changes every month and they've been closed due to the COVID restrictions, so I was looking forward to what they had in store upon reopening.
On Saturday night, I was lucky to try not one, but two desserts, thanks to the perks of going out with my sister (yay for siblings!). These included an old favourite, the Chocolate Molten Pudding and something I haven't tried before, a Butter Poached Pear with Butterscotch sauce.
I can't believe how good the pudding was, even though I ordered a vegan version without the ice-cream. The plate was decadence personified, with the smooth, warm chocolate sauce oozing out of the beautifully textured pudding.
The dish would have certainly been elevated had I had ordered the vanilla ice-cream - the coldness and creaminess would've contrasted perfectly with the rest of the dessert.
The Butter Poached Pear dish was an example of a wonderfully multi-layered dessert in terms of flavour and texture. The beautifully poached pear was coated with a thin layer of pastry. Combined with the ice-cream (which I didn't have) and the luxurious butterscotch caramel sauce, this dessert was an absolute winner. If only I could try everything on the Eggless menu!
Yum, Yum, Yum: Butter poached pear with vanilla ice-cream
