It's all about the bubbles
Australia's only celebration of everything champagne will be back this year with a bigger program, representatives from the major French champagne houses, and tastings galore, all in the beautiful surrounds of Spicers Hidden Vale retreat. Effervescence Champagne Festival is for everyone who has a love of that sumptuous straw-coloured nectar commonly known as champagne, and if that's you, then you're invited to join in the celebrations on Sunday 2 September 2018.
My daughter and I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at last year's event, which is the brainchild of champagne educator Amanda Reboul aka 'The Bubble Diva'. Spicers Hidden Vale is in Grandchester, a little over an hour's drive from Brisbane. The retreat combines luxury with country ambience and hospitality in 12,000 acres of bushland high on a hill with glorious views. You may have read that the almost 100 year-old homestead was sadly destroyed in a fire in April, but it will be business as usual for the festival.

Tickets for the Full Day Escape (new for this year) have already sold out but you can still relish The Champagne Trail from 2pm to 5.30pm. For $120 per person you can enjoy champagne at the tasting stations representing the four main growing regions of champagne; 'Montagne de Reims', 'Vallee de la Marne', 'Cote de Blancs', and 'Cote de Bar'. There will also be French-style markets, live music and cooking demonstrations. You may even learn about the fine champagne art of sabrage i.e. opening a champagne bottle with a sabre. You will also take home an Effervescene tote bag and a lovely Philippe Jamesse tasting flute. My daughter and I can vouch for this being the perfect way to enjoy your favourite glass of bubbles - ours have been well-used since last year. Book your tickets online here.
You can indulge in the experience of theLuxe Lounge, with premium tastings and canapes, for an extra $50 per person. Tickets must be purchased with your Champagne Trail Ticket and are available online here.
And don't stress about driving; transport has been thoughtfully looked after. Return bus travel is offered from Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast and Toowoomba for between $30 and $40. Book your place online here.
