Burnett Heads is a small community on the south side of the mouth of the Burnett River - the same river that flows through Bundaberg, where sugar cane is grown and processed beside the distillery to make Bundaberg Rum. On it is a rare walk because it goes from Oaks Beach to the very end of the south of the Burnett River mouth, I walked this starting at South Head Parklands where the skate park was visible and some quite complicated yet very useful playground equipment - having reviewed many parks as a reviewer I thought the playground equipment had variety. I was thinking more in terms of the Burnett River as I knew it was massive, so I got to take a lot of the Edna Strub walk from the tip of the River mouth to the Oaks Beach via South Head Parklands.

Burnett Heads is near the Port of Bundaberg. Below is a photo of the town's water tower while the collages are in order of the walk and show images of pathway, seaside and rocks.

History of Burnett HesdsThe township had several names before Burnett Heads. A lighthouse was built in 1873 and the Port of Bundaberg area became known as Burnett Heads, named after James Charles Burnett - as seen from Arts Bundaberg document. A more detailed history can be seen on the Queensland Places website.

The cloud cover made the walk more eerie as it greyed the sky injecting darker light into this historic strip of land. The lighthouse was so lonely and spooky despite being a modern design - I wasn't sure even if it was one but later I found out it was an important lighthouse. The structure was fenced off.

A great way to pass some time prior to the rum distillery tour nearby. It's still a recommendable tour for non drinkers, however, it's a bit iffy for people trying to quit - but I somehow enjoyed the tour despite not indulging in after tour rum shots, with the factory and museum pictured below.
