Many people spray them, some give them to their pets like guinea pigs, bunnies or chickens to eat, but those in the know forage and eat them. Yes, weeds can make a great addition to any meal, it's just knowing which ones you can use.

In this free session on Saturday August 5th, Emily Robertson, a qualified naturopath and herbalist with a focus on food as medicine, is going to do a 'walk and talk' presentation through the Glen Park Oaks Community Garden .

Emily will show you first hand which weeds you can eat and which common herbs provide medicinal value. You may even find a few of the herbs and weeds in the community garden, to take home with you.

It is surprising to learn which weeds you can eat and you'll find out things like which weed is high in vitamin K or one that can be used for topical treatment of eczema, as well as how to use the common herbs like thyme, rosemary and oregano as remedies for common ailments.

Emily's quest for nutrition packed food has led her on a journey with herbs and weeds. She loves being able to share her knowledge of food and nutrition with people and to support them on their journey to better health.

Emily says that food nurtures us on so many levels. Real food makes us thrive, but it also connects people and nourishes the spirit. Somewhere along the lines, we lost our connection with what we eat. For most of us, we don't grow food on the land we live on, it's grown somewhere else, then packaged and purchased with little thought. Most people don't think about where their food comes from, nor do we really know how fresh it is.

We can take many small steps to bring mindfulness back to our plates and back to our lives. Nature gives us so many gifts, but we have to look and pay attention. This is what Emily likes about edible weeds and garden herbs. It's fun and simple and helps to people to connect to their food again. Their joy for cooking and eating is rekindled and they feel connected to life around them.

What a great way to start learning about medicinal herbs and edible weeds from a naturopath's perspective, in this free 'Walk and Talk' session.

And if that's not enough, this talk is being held alongside a food swap . So if you have any excess from your garden, you're welcome to bring that along to exchange as well.

So why don't you go along on Saturday 5th August to Glen Park Oaks Community Garden - 30 Glen Park Road Bayswater North, from 10-11:30 to find out more about the usefulness of edible weeds and herbs that you might already have growing in your garden.
