I am a freelance writer living in the south of Adelaide. I am a vegetarian, humanitarian, animal activist and bird rescuer. I believe to the very depths of my soul that we are put on this Earth to look after those less able than ourselves.
Event:
A ballroom full of vegetables of every shape and kind
Edibilizing Adelaide was an event held on the 15th of June.

My gardening guru Costa Georgiadis and Adelaide Hills presenter - Sophie Thomson were there to promote the event. The presenters are both from Gardening Australia and were there to welcome the gardening community. They explained deeply and clearly just how beneficial Ripe Near Me will be.

Tables filled the front and side of the Burnside Hall. They were loaded with freshly picked produce to swap. People walked in with loaded baskets and back out with entirely different fruit and vegetables. It was really good to talk to the growers and get ideas. I certainly found out why my eggplants have never done well a mission for the future!

Alistair and Helena Martin were present to share their enthusiasm and it certainly was catching. They are so very excited to have started something that has readily been accepted throughout Australia and across the globe.

The whole point of the day was to make people aware of the myriad of ways they can garden in their own homes no matter how small an area they have. It was to create awareness of the health benefits of organically growing our own food and sharing it with others.

At least we can recognise him by the beard!

Gardeners will quite often get a bumper crop of one vegetable and not do so well with another. Having a place to swap and share means there is no food wastage and we don't have to go to the supermarket to buy extra vegetables.

Costa Georgiadis spread himself around very generously. He attended the bar and gave out free drinks. He walked around the hall meeting and greeting people as he went. Costa also spent quite a bit of time allowing people to take selfies with him. I was indeed one of those bulging eyed fans and when he also gave me a hug, I swear tears welled up in my eyes.

Costa - the most natural and friendly celebrity you could hope to meet.

When I told Costa that I would write an article about Edibilizing Adelaide and Ripe Near Me he got very excited and asked me to email him a copy. You never know he might become my new BFF.
