Edgecombe Brothers' is well-known as a family cafe for good, informal food at reasonable prices.

What is perhaps less well-known is that they have moved into the take-away burger bar business.

On Fridays and Saturdays from 5:00pm to 9:00pm they are serving the traditional with a bit of a twist.

No bookings are necessary. Just drop in to order off the rather cute menu. The food is specifically take away, but many happy diners find a spot in the patio area around the fire pits or under the covered area outside or the cosy seated area inside.

The fact that you're seated shouldn't make you think this is table service though. Order your meal at the counter and pay for it and wait til someone comes and calls your number.

It's worth waiting for. I chose 'The Edge' ($10.50) which is described as a 'Fabulous rustic beef burger with a Dardanup beef pattie, fresh salads, caramelized onion and our own amazing Beetroot Relish on a focaccia-style roll.'

It came, as advertised, the beef patty very tender and flavourful, although I didn't see much difference between the Focaccia style roll and a nice fresh hamburger bun.

Edgie's beetroot relish is delicious, although a burger that appears to bleed as you eat it is a surprise.

As well as 'The Edge', there is a Pollo Burger ($11.50) - chicken, of course, and 'The Vedgecombe' ($11.50), with a vegetarian bean pattie, fresh salad and home-made aioli on the roll.

Or you may prefer a BLT ($10.50) on Turkish bread with the home-made aioli.

Sides of Hot Chips ($4.50) and Sweet Potato Wedges ($8.50) are available. We tried both and the sweet potato chips are delicious, the ordinary chips are too, but they are more usual.

If you want more on the actual burger you can have egg (free range) ($1.50) or cheese ($1.00) or bacon ($2.00).

We ate at the tables outside on a warm balmy evening and the gentle breeze, muted voices and laughter around us, together with a glass of the wine of the house made it a very pleasant evening.
If you would like wines, or coffee or tea with your meal either order it all at once or go up twice if you decide to eat on the premises.

Please note that Edgecombe Brothers is a licensed premises and therefore strictly no BYO is permitted.

Highly recommended.
