There is no lack of Asian flavours in Auckland, however if you are craving for some Sichuan food (think spicy, chilli and strong flavours), why not give Eden noodles a try!
Eden noodles is located along Dominion Road, in the suburb of Mt Eden. Situated at the junction of Dominion and View Road, this small shop makes a convenient pit stop after a climb of Mt Eden on the other end of View Road.

This little restaurant sits less than 20, however the long queue during lunch hours speaks volumes. When I last visited on a weekday in June, Eden Noodles had a constant stream of customers going in and out of its small shop, with the phone ringing continuously for takeaway orders. The interior decor and shop atmosphere resembles something you would find in China, and once in the shop, it is often easy to forget that you are in New Zealand. It is not a place where you would bring your partner for a romantic date, however if its cheap, authentic Chinese food you are looking for, this is the right place.
A Chinese menu is found under the glass panel at your table, however English menus are available upon request. Do be sure to try their dan dan mian (dan dan noodles), served in a spicy soup and topped with minced pork. The minced pork was deliciously fried till crisp, and it went well with the noodles and soup base.
Another of my favourites is the wontons in spicy soup. This is another great Sichuan classic and it did not disappoint. You can choose the spiciness level of your soup base, we chose mild and believe me it sure still is spicy!

Overall, this place serves good value authentic Sichuan-style food, and I would recommend coming before 1130am to avoid the lunch crowd and get a seat.
