Eddison Park in Woden is a 14 hectare reserve enjoyed by the whole community. Local workers come for a quiet spot to eat their lunch, teenagers come after school to perform tricks at the skate park, joggers stop to use the exercise equipment, kids shoot hoops at the basketball court and families come to play at the two playgrounds.
Eddison Skate Park (Eddison Youth Recreation Space) is a popular area for all levels of skaters and scooters. The large area has spectator seating in the middle of the park for skaters to watch each other, as well as rails to slide down.
For other sports-related activities, there are two rock climbing "rocks", a basketball court, outdoor exercise equipment and Frisbee Golf nets amongst the trees. See the ACT Disc Golf Club website and facebook for more information on how to play or join their league.
There are two playgrounds at Eddison Park - a new modern playground with swings, net swing and slide area. This area is set amongst newly landscaped areas and ponds leading up to a free BBQ and undercover picnic table. There is an older playground area further up the path - also with swings and a BBQ under the trees.
New playground area with fake grass to soften the fall...
Eddison Park is named after the Eddison family who owned the property of 'Yamba', before the development of Woden in the 1960s. Two memorials at the park commemorate the loss of the three Eddison sons in the Second World War.
Walking through Eddison Park is a peaceful experience despite being on busy Launceston street in Phillip. With ducks pecking around your feet looking for food, kids learning to ride on the bike paths and families firing up the BBQ's, it is a relaxing area for the whole community in busy Woden.
