Alice in Wonderland has many doubles
The Eclectic Emporium for family fun and white rabbits.
Curiosities, wonders and unique creations can be found at the Toowoomba Regional Library'sEclectic Emporium, where the stories in the books come to life. It's community engagement plus artisan markets, a winning combination. The staffers in costumes don't do things by halves.
Adults have just as much fun as children in costume.
Alice in Wonderland was the theme for everyone's alter-ego dress-up day. Family fun and games on the green. Stalls enticed with things such as sweet and salty, fairy furniture, shoes, clothes and jewellery with a smattering of steam-punk.
Picnics on the lawn, shopping and games.
For today's competition, Follow the White Rabbit's scavenger hunt for hidden words around the library, plus voting for your favourite costume wins a basket of goodies.
When you're ready for refreshments, there's no shortage of eats and seats, with people also electing to picnic on the lawn. The Library Cafe has the world's fluffiest scones and the locals know it because they go fast. Catching the theme, you could have Mad Hatter's Tea for Two with cronuts.
There was a buzzy crowd but not a crush. Sponsored by the Friends of the Toowoomba Library, a children's book sale adorned with roses attracted the kids. Pink flamingo croquet for littlies was just the right level of challenge. A big colouring-in table. Face painting was extremely popular. Giant chess with assistance and a mad hatter competitor - they thought of everything.
Stay turned for news on the library's next theme day.
