Having never encountered a gateau before, I was intrigued by the French-sounding name and the decadence of chocolate covering the amazing looking dessert.
The cake part was soft and moist, the cream layer rich and chocolaty and the hard chocolate slice on top just added to the delight.
This was truly a wonderful treat and went astonishingly well with my strong flat white. Below is a definition of what makes a gateau as I had absolutely no idea what it was or how to pronounce the word.
Gateau: A rich cake, typically one containing layers of cream or fruit. "a chocolate gateau"
So not only was this a great piece of cake but I learnt something new about cake at the same time.
