There is nothing quite like Eat Street Markets . The popular concept grew from the idea of recycling shipping containers sitting in an old disused container wharf and then introduced international food from all corners of the globe.

With food trucks, performers and music the experience is a cross between a carnival and a food park. It is a culinary-hub for tourists and locals alike.



A novel way of experiencing this market is to cycle there, especially given the entire route is along bike paths with no cars and no hills. That is the offering of the Bicycle Eat Street Markets Tour run by Brisbane by Bicycle.

This twilight tour leaves from the Southbank Parklands and then you cycle alongside the twists and turns of the Brisbane River. A knowledgeable guide pointing out attractions along the way.



When you arrive you have roughly an hour to 90 minutes to chill out and gobble, gobble and guzzle.

This market is known for its extraordinary range of dishes and drinks. Imagine around 70 dining options in shipping containers. There are permanent bars and restaurants. You name the cuisine or dish and they've got it: Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Greek, Hungarian, fudge, loukoumades, Swedish candy, Japanese pizza, craft beer, bao, cannoli, loaded doughnut fries and rainbow soft serve ice-creams. And the market is well set out alongside the river with seating areas, colourful shades and neon signs. Such a lively buzz and because you arrive by bike, you don't even have the hassle of trying to park your car.

Your return, however, is not by bike but by boat. Cruising along the Brisbane River, you can watch the city lights turn on one by one for the night. A unique experience.
