Food lovers, rejoice! Eat Drink Perth is back for the month of April and this festival of all things food and drink is bigger and better than ever. In addition to old favourites like the Butcher's Picnic and Yum Cha in the Park , this year features Perth's first Food Truck Rumble , a Waiters Race and a host of activities just for kids. Many events are low-priced or free, meaning there's never been a better time to discover to discover the city's culinary delights.

The complete program can be downloaded along with separate guides to small bars , coffee shops plus city food and drink . There's sure to be something for everyone, but to whet your appetite, here are some of my top picks.

Kids in the Kitchen
A free cooking class at Perth's most popular restaurant? Sign me up…oh wait… it's only for 8-12 year olds. Thanks to Jamie's Italian , they can attend a hands-on session learning how to make pasta and focaccia and then share in a feast. Hopefully they'll want to show off their new skills to mum and dad!
9 -10 am, Saturdays 5, 12, 19, 26 April. Bookings essential, ring 9363 8600

Mad Hatter's Tea Party
Put on a free pair of bunny ears and join in the fun at this free event at the Northbridge Piazza . Meet the White Rabbit, attend a cupcake decorating workshop, play croquet or just sing and dance with the Queen of Hearts. Be sure to watch Alice in Wonderland on the big screen to get in the mood.
Sunday, April 6, noon to 6:00 pm

The AHA International Great Waiters Race Perth
The first Waiters Race was held in Paris in 1904. Perth now joins dozens of other cities in this challenging and fun event which was originally designed to improve recognition of the profession. The race course in Claisbrook Cove features a Gourmet Village as well as easy access to local cafes. This free event is organised by the Rotary Club of West Perth to raise funds for the McCusker Alzheimer's Research Foundation and Western Australian Neuroscience Research Institute.
Sunday, 27 April, 2:00 - 8:00 pm

Twilight Hawkers Market
April sees the final two weeks of this hugely popular Friday night outdoor food celebration . Don't miss this chance to enjoy the buzz of the Forrest Place and some fabulous food. I recommend the slow cooked lamb shanks and for dessert, watch ice cream being made using liquid nitrogen - fresh and delicious.
Friday, 4 & 11 April, 5:00 - 9:00 pm

Progressive Dinner Tour
Progressive dinners used to be something you did at friend's houses – appetiser at one house, main at another, dessert at a third. Thanks to local tour company Two Feet and a Heartbeat this idea has gone upmarket. Enjoy dinner and a stroll with stops at three of the finest CBD restaurants: The Butterworth, The Terrace Hotel and Lamont's Bishops House.
Mondays & Tuesdays in April, 6:30 – late, $150

Northbridge Ramble
Discover the secrets of Northbridge on this three-hour walking tour with Wandering Wok . From grocers and butchers to Indian sweets, Chinese medicine and other hidden treats, there's something for everyone.
3,4,5,10 & 11 April, 9:30 - 12:30, $85

I have to stop because I'm getting hungry! Remember this is just a taste of the full program . There are free workshops in Gluten Free Cooking, Anti-Aging Superfoods and a Food Theatre . Ticketed events include a Chocolate Master Class , Chocolate Walking Tours , even a food photography workshop, so start planning and booking now.
