This is a must for Straddie fans and an enviable lifestyle
Stradbroke Island photographers Angie Simms and Stuart Quinn have roamed the world with their cameras in hand. Between them, they have captured photographic images of Korea, of Lake Baikal in Siberia, of volcanoes in Hawaii, and of Stonehenge.
More recently their combined efforts have been closer to home resulting in a full-colour cookbook with the title Eat, Drink and Be Straddie: Tales and Tastes from an Island in the Sun. Containing over 100 photographed recipes from ingredients sourced from the Island, this book is sure to please both lovers of food and travel.
Book Cover From Event Flyer
To compliment the food photography the book includes stunning landscape shots, taken at sunrise and sunset, on the beach, in the water, across rocky headlands and from the top of cliffs accessible only by walking.
The book also features stories on the island's producers, as well as a timeline of the key historical events pertaining to Stradbroke, or Straddie as she is more affectionately known. With this in mind, it also includes a message from Quandamooka elder, Dr Aunty Joan Hendricks.
Angie Simms will be discussing Eat, Drink and Be Straddie: Tales and Tastes from an Island in the Sun as part of the Redland City Council's Authors in Action initiative, on Friday, March 10th, between 10:30am and 11:30am.
This Free event will be held at the Cleveland Library, on the corner of Middle and Bloomfield Streets, Cleveland. Bookings are essential. Please reserve your place on 07 3829 8576.
As someone very familiar with Stradbroke Island, I am very interested in this one. Is it also a bit tragic if I admit that this book might make a beaut Christmas gift for my Staddie loving daughters?
