Easy Lunches from Around the World (Easy Cookbooks for Kids) - Book Review
In Summary
In Belgium and Holland, people dip their French fries in mayonnaise. In Bulgaria, pizza is topped with mustard or ketchup. In Sweden, pickles go with eggs and potatoes. Some foods may sound terrible until you taste them.
Mexico
In Spanish, queso means "cheese". A quesadilla is a "little cheesy thing". It's like a grilled cheese but with a tortilla instead of bread. Torta means "plain round cake". In Mexico, tortillas are a staple.
Vietnam
Banh mi are sandwiches. With a crusty roll, brush mayonnaise and stuff with meat and vegetables. Choose the vegetables you like.
Bulgaria
Fried zucchini with yogurt sauce made in this recipe is salty and tasty rather than sweet and may be eaten with salads, vegetables (like zucchini) and meat such as chicken or fish. Cook the zucchini first then the sauce.
Sweden
The word hash means "jumble" or "mix". Most recipes combine meat and potatoes. Place an egg on top of each serving. Garnish with a dill pickle.
Hungary
Hungarian cuisine often features many stews and soups. Sauerkraut soup is served at midnight on New Year's Eve. Kraut means "cabbage". Sauerkraut means "sour cabbage". This dish is supposed to be a little sour.
In Opinion
I really like this international children's cookbook for easy lunches. Not only are they learning geography but recipes to fill their bellies. Parents can supervise but should let their children really learn in the kitchen, a skill they may keep forever.
I chose to highlight my favorites. However, your child just might like some other recipes in the cookbook besides my favorites.
This cookbook would be a really nice present.
I give this cookbook a
5-star rating!
