Having lived in the Middle East almost all my life, I can say two things:
1. It is a highly conservative country. The rules are strict, ruthless and a bit daunting.
2. That's okay - there are places to go to and have the best time of your life!
It's the little things that make you appreciate the culture of Saudi Arabia.

For instance, if you are travelling to the city centre from the airport, or to a surrounding suburb, keep a close eye on the side of the highway - you may stumble upon some beautiful, majestic camels in their prime element. Stop by the road if you can, and take some happy snaps, or just simply adore them by observing their activities.

Find a free spot in the grass and lie down - read a book, listen to music or lather yourself up in sunscreen and let your body bronze up in the gorgeous sunshine.

There are seating areas provided on the beach, some equipped with a barbeque stand. This is the perfect opportunity to host a gathering with friends and family when the sun is shining and the water is glimmering.

The Dammam Corniche is another picturesque place to visit. There are date palm trees everywhere. And there is a lot of walking space. Friday morning is the best time to visit, as it won't be too crowded, and you can even fancy having a delicious breakfast at Kudu Restaurant - waffles, anyone?

Al-Marjan Island is the ultimate spot for picnics - it's about 40 minutes out of Dammam, but it's worth the drive. There are seagulls and pelicans, boat rides offered at affordable prices and the excellent Gulf weather to complement a great outing.
