Queen Victoria Market (QVM) as we know, excels in fresh produce and will take on a very local flavour over the Easter holidays. After the year we've had, everyone wants to and should support local, hence Victorian produce is tipped to be front and centre on tables this Easter. QVM will be Melbourne's one-stop-shop for fresh produce, chocolatey sweet treats and one-of-a-kind gifts. Here are what some of the local traders had to say.

Prosser's Seafood - Third-generation fishmonger Damien Prosser said "The desire to support and shop local has never been stronger. The number of customers asking for Victorian seafood is increasing daily. We are expecting to see a strong demand for Portarlington mussels and Victorian rainbow trout this Easter as well as wild fish like flathead, blue eye and rockling. The usual Easter seafood suspects including oysters and cooked prawns are bound to be popular too" Damien said.

Butchers are anticipating lamb roasts, legs of lamb and lamb racks to be in high demand with many of the market's butchers taking pre-orders for coveted cuts from this week.

Alec Watson & Son Butchers - Stephen Saro says - "Traditionally, Easter Sunday lunch or dinner is a roast lamb. We are expecting our lamb cuts, which all come from western Victoria, to be most popular. My recommendation would be to try a lamb shoulder for your Easter feast – nothing beats slow-roasted lamb served with seasonal vegetables. It's old school but a classic."

Easter however is when we have a great excuse to indulge in hot cross buns and chocolates right? The smell of freshly baked Hot Cross Buns will fill the Market's Dairy Produce Hall with buns to suit every taste. Stop by Woodfrog Bakery or Ferguson Plarre Bakehouse for traditional fruit buns or try something different like dark chocolate, raspberry and white chocolate, gluten-free and vegan varieties.

For those wanting to take their Hot Cross Bun fixation to the next level, visit the market's herb and spice merchants, Gewürzhaus , and pick up their Easter Bun Tea or Hot Cross Bun Spice Mix, perfect for baking your own buns at home. Easter would not be complete without chocolate. Luckily, the market is home to one of Melbourne's most distinguished chocolatiers Koko Black . They'll be showcasing their incredible range of chocolate-coated bunnies alongside their famous five egg collection and curated hampers. Market shoppers can also stop by M&G Caiafa for a selection of decadent, chocolate Easter treats.

Food and sweets sorted, let's take a look at Easter gifting! For those of you who do organise Easter gifts, QVM offers a unique selection of gift ideas for the whole family. Stroll the market's open-air sheds and laneways for handmade crafts, beauty and body products, locally made clothing, kid's toys, eco-friendly presents, art, books, jewellery and much more. The market's iconic gift shop, Ambiance , has an entire Easter collection featuring Easter garlands, wreaths, table and home decorations.

If you can't make it in to shop in the lead up to Easter, or if you simply prefer online shopping , you can do that too at QVM. On offer is the convenience to browse more than 2,000 products from 45 market traders from the comfort of home. The service offers same-day delivery options when you order by 10am on any market day to more than 150 Melbourne suburbs or click & collect from a designated pick-up zone at the market. See all the FAQs here .

And yes, there are family activities too! For the little ones, Queen Victoria Market will host a dedicated Easter Trail for kids, available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 19 March to 4 April (excluding Good Friday). The trail will guide children around the Market to gather clues and win a prize. The Easter Trail map can be picked up from the Queen Victoria Market Visitor Hub in String Bean Alley or downloaded online , but won't be available till closer to date. The Easter Bunny will make a special appearance at the market on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 April between 10am and 2pm. Hop along and collect some chocolate eggs.

As an aside, QVM is super excited to be launching a new nighttime activation at the market in April and are seeking expressions of interest for food trucks and food stalls. See here to apply today. If you are a trader, you have till applications close on Monday 8 March 2021. Here's the application form and the Trader info pack for the April trading event.
