Things to do on the Easter Long Weekend
Easter is a very busy time for most people and this year it coincides with the school holidays so that makes it even busier. The long weekend is a good time to relax and spend time with family and friends, enjoying a lazy backyard BBQ, and eating all that chocolate, but if you want to get out and about over the long weekend, where can you go?
Lots of people like to get away from the city over the Easter Long Weekend so there are not a lot of scheduled events in the Perth area but there are still a few things that you can do.
Fremantle Street Arts Festival
Fremantle will have its annual Fremantle Street Arts Festival over the Easter Long Weekend. Now in its 14th year, the 2012 festival promises to be the biggest and best, with performers from around the world, showcasing busking, street theatre, comedy, circus, cabaret and lots more.
Fremantle and Perth City
The shops in Fremantle and Perth City are open over the long weekend and so are most cafés and restaurants. You can still enjoy a bit of retail therapy and treat yourself to a cappuccino or have a relaxing lunch at one of the many splendid cafés or restaurants Perth has to offer. However, the shops in both areas are closed on Good Friday and the ones in the city are closed on Easter Monday too.
If you are into Sci-Fi or Fantasy, Swancon 37 or Doom-Con 2012 as this year's convention is billed, will be held over the Easter Long Weekend.
The 37th Annual Western Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention will be held at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth City from 5th to 9th April, 2012. With plenty of events, games, exhibits and guest speakers this promises to be lots of fun.
York Antique and Collectors Fair
The York Antique and Collectors Fair will return for its 27th year over the Easter Long Weekend. Held at the York Town Hall, there will be more stalls than ever featuring antiques, jewellery, bric a brac, furniture and collectables, this event is not to missed. A great family day out in historic York.
Donnybrook Apple Festival
Visit Donnybrook over the Easter long weekend for the Donnybrook Apple Festival. Full of stalls featuring apples, apple products, food and wine, there is also loads to see including a log chop, vintage cars, art show and live entertainment.
As night closes in, watch the sky light up with a fireworks display.
Most movie theatres are open all long weekend and there are some good movies on at the moment so now might be a good time to go and see that movie you've been planning to see.
Bunnings. I know this is a weird one, but loads of people just love shopping at Bunnings stores. The stores are open 7am till 7pm every day. If you are planning a DIY project or want some new plants for the garden then this is a chance to stock up on everything you will need.
The weather is still nice so make the most of it, how about just packing up a picnic and heading to Kings Park or the beach, or invite everyone over for a BBQ.
A lot of places are closed on Good Friday but open other days over the Easter Long Weekend so it's best to check the websites before you make the trip.
Whatever you decide to do on the Easter Long Weekend, remember to relax and have fun.
