For many Australians, Easter evokes images of ubiquitous eggs, bunnies and chocolate. For over ten million Australians who identify as being Christian, however, Easter is the most important event in the calendar - even more significant than Christmas - as it celebrates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
If you would like to attend an Easter church service to reflect upon the sacrifice Jesus made upon the cross for humanity, most Christian churches conduct a service on either Good Friday or Easter Sunday and will likely advertise these in your local area. The following is a selection of Easter services that some churches in Perth, Mandurah and surrounding areas are conducting this year. All events and services listed are free entry.
The annual Easter Art Exhibition at Wesley Uniting Church runs from 28 March to 6 April, 9am to 5pm daily.
Wesley Uniting Church, on the corner of William and Hay Streets in Perth, is holding their Annual Easter art exhibition including the Stations of the Cross showcasing the final days of the life of Jesus. It features new artworks by fifteen West Australian visual artists and runs from 28 March to 6 April, 9am to 5pm daily. More information can be found here.
The Good Friday Walkthrough at The Red Door Community Church is a special free event for all ages.
The Red Door Community Church at 4/33 Hammond Road, Cockburn Central, offers their Good Friday Walkthrough: a guided tour of various stations through the church building. Designed to appeal to all ages, the walkthrough takes around 50 minutes with groups of up to 12 people entering the walkthrough at a time. Participants are asked to book their entrance on either Thursday 2 April between 7pm and 12am or Friday 3 April between 9am and 3pm. Bookings are taken here.
Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Booragoon welcomes everyone to join their Easter services on Friday 3 April and Sunday 5 April. The services are themed 'The Death of Death' and 'Life Everlasting' and run at 8:45am and 10:30am both days. You will find them in the MPBCC Auditorium at 497 Marmion Street, or online.
A special production themed 'Love Fought, Love Won' will feature on Good Friday and Easter Sunday at MetroChurch City and Mandurah.
MetroChurch City and Mandurah presents Easter 2015, a special production with the theme 'Love Fought, Love Won'. The City campus of the church, found on the corner of Beaufort and Aberdeen Streets, Perth, will hold a service on Good Friday at 7pm and another on Easter Sunday at 9:30am, while the Mandurah campus, on the corner of McClarty Road and Jacana Way, Halls Head, welcomes you on Sunday at 9:30am. Christ's Church Anglican Parish of Mandurah is hosting numerous events over Easter Season, including the Imposition of Ashes on Wednesday 25 March, Passover Supper on Friday 27 March and the Stations of the Cross on Monday 30 March, as well as their Good Friday liturgy and Easter Sunday celebrations. Lastly, for those seeking some light-hearted fun before the Easter weekend, Anchor Church in Canning Vale is organising Perth's one and only Easter Egg Smash on Saturday 28 March at the fields of Canning Vale College. Guests will be wowed by gigantic egg piņatas filled with goodies for everyone to take home. The fun begins at 9am with bouncy castles, a petting zoo and a kids craft zone, while the Egg Parade starts at 10.30am. Entry is free and you can visit here for more information.
