In the heart of the Perth CBD, you can find a little bit of New York's famous Manhattan borough. Located in the dining hub of 140 William Street, serves classic America dishes that are largely typical of the NYC's neighbourhood that the restaurant is named after.
My husband and I were actually headed for another venue in the same complex, but the line was far too long to order, and when you have children, one does simply not line up for food. So we went to instead, where we were seated straight away.
The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We stopped for lunch with our two little girls and were given a colouring book and some crayons for our toddler.
My husband ordered the Dirty Burger – I'm not sure why it's called the Dirty Burger, but many of the dishes on the
Village_Menus_Sept_V4.pdf menu are named after places in the US, or things that are synonymous with the US, such as the Hell's Kitchen Burger, Field of Dreams, Baywatch and The Don Burgers. Many of the lunch dishes also feature on the dinner menu too.
You'll find the Rockafella Pizza, Bronx, Brooklyn and the B.I.G Mac pizzas. There is a small menu for children, which includes fish and chips, chicken wings, hotdog and a junior burger. They also serve chicken breast and schnitzel with your choice of sides and sauce, plus loaded fries, desserts and coffee. There's also a wine, beer and cocktail list.
As for me, well, I went to an American restaurant and ordered a salad. Usually, you would find me wolfing back a cheeseburger, but this baby weight is not going to shift itself, and cheeseburgers certainly won't help. But this was not just any old salad – it was a Slow Cooked Greek Lamb Salad with freshly baked bread. Yum! It's like a little piece of Greece in an American restaurant, here in Perth. How very international.
We ordered the hot dog for our toddler, as we voted it 'least likely meal to be completely snubbed'. She had a little nibble then that was it. I suppose it didn't help her being in a foul mood and producing the type of tantrum that makes other people turn around to have a look, over and over, as if them looking over will somehow help us magically stop the epic tantrum.
So as usual, we had to eat in a hurry and be on our way. I thoroughly enjoyed my salad – it was certainly a bit different to your average salad. My husband chowed down the burger without complaint but the poor old hotdog never really stood a chance against a grumpy toddler. It was okay though – your typical hotdog with bread and sauce.
The service was great, with the meals served quickly and with a smile and overall it was an enjoyable experience. I would love to return one day for a New York Cheeseburger, rather than a salad and perhaps without the grumpy child in tow.
