Born and bred in Byron Bay during the 70s,
Earth 'n' Sea made the journey to Brisbane in 1993, bringing with it a range of delicious pizza and a casual dining atmosphere. Don't be mistaken by the relaxed setting, their pizza is top notch. Not to mention they use wholemeal bases, only local products and low-fat cheese.
Earth 'n' Sea offer a huge variety of flavours, from the famous vegetarian option Mullumbimby Madness, to Satay Chicken and my personal favourite, Beethoven. Beethoven features prawns, banana and pineapple. You might think that sounds like an odd combination (or that it sounds downright disgusting) but trust me, it works. I've been going to Earth 'n' Sea for years and that is my go-to dish.
The pricing system is also very sensible, no matter which flavour you get the price depends only on the size you choose. All smalls are $18, larges are $28 and giants are $34. They're not shy with the toppings either, loading the stuff on so it's really worth the dough. The last time I was there we ordered two giant sizes and that was enough to feed six people. Six fully-grown people boasting hefty appetites.
Apart from their fantastic pizzas you can get pasta and salads, although I'll be honest, I've never had those – if you're going here I say go for the pizza. They also offer a fairly extensive, though not particularly original, dessert menu. The menu itself is also fairly entertaining for kids, covered in drawings depicting everyday happenings around Byron. Although maybe the sketch of a shark devouring a surfer isn't an everyday occurrence. Nevertheless, It's a great place for a family night out.
The Bulimba location can be found right on the edge of the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street. It is fairly small but busy so a reservation would not go astray. Since opening in Brisbane, the restaurant has grown to house four locations in our fine city; Bulimba, Nundah, Wilston and Coorparoo. All four locations are open seven nights a week from 5.30pm and offer take-away and delivery services. If you're ever in Byron Bay, be sure to check out the original restaurant where all the magic began.
