Ear candy is hearing your favourite kind of music
If you're anything like me, the term "ear candy" brings up aural images of amazing sounds, the lingering memory of emotions awakened and the flushed feeling of dancing. Urban Dictionary gives a number of definitions for "ear candy" and the one I like best is "hearing your favourite kind of music".

There's a five-band line-up at the Beetle Bar which includes two of my favourite, and three new (to me) bands for me to sink my teeth into. First up on the bill is The Halls. A four-piece band that plays in the pop-rock / ambient-rock genre who have recently released a five-track demo EP for your listening pleasure. I saw them play in October - have a read here, and for some tunes, check out here. With longer-than-usual songs that take you on an aural journey, you better get to the gig on time or you'll miss out!

Second on the bill is The Johnny Mustards. A three-piece from the eastern suburbs, they call themselves "slop rock". Then right, smack in the middle of the evening, you'll catch Galapogos. One of my long-term favourite bands, this five-piece has a sound rooted in rock, exploring the twisting of sound, and I've written a review of them here. Another band with longer-than-usual songs, they have had an extremely productive 2012 with lots of online EP releases to keep fans happy. Check out their sound here.

Anti-Thesis is band number four on the bill. Describing themselves as "Noisy, grungy art-rock delivered in the perfect way -> LOUD", I have yet to catch them live. Originally from Bundaberg, they moved down to BrisVegas in 2011 to set up a more regular gig schedule. Have a listen to them here.

And when you've been whipped into an aural frenzy, the final band is Whiskey & Speed. Describing themselves as "dirty, heavy hybrid of grunge, sludge, punk and hard rock", this four-piece have been gigging since 2008 and are known for their intense live shows. To get a taste of what you'll experience, have a listen here.

So, that's $10 entry for five bands! Doors at 7pm, and don't be late! Event info on Facebook is located here.
