Found The Coolest Karaoke Club in Chinatown
Recently, I had the pleasure of being invited to join one of my students and some of his friends for karaoke at Dynasty Karaoke Club in Chinatown. Not speaking a word of Mandarin I had never been there and thought it to be a Chinese-only club, but on entering found that everyone was welcome.
This is probably the most stylish karaoke club I've ever been in. Beautiful purple, blue and red lighting and leather / faux leather upholstery, exquisite glassware behind the bar, a wide selection of international beers, and bottles of wine and cognac, some exceeding $4,000.00 a bottle.
The main area opens out into what can be a simple chill-out area where you can relax and drink after singing, but can be transformed into a dance floor or event room at a moments notice.
In recent years I've tended to gravitate towards places with wood panelling or faux wood styles but Dynasty reminded me of what I used to love seeing - the night club style with colours and black leather, steel trim and well-dressed waiters. Definitely more my style of club. (I also loved the terracotta warrior theme.)
We were allocated a room in the corner at the back with a beautiful soft lounge and thick glass walls. The dim lighting meant anyone in other booths near us were simply blurs, and the thick glass meant we couldn't be heard singing our hearts out.
The system had an extensive play list and our group sang along to a number of Korean, Chinese, Japanese and English songs. We also enjoyed food and drink delivered to the Karaoke room. The manager also dropped by to make sure we were all enjoying ourselves.
Like other karaoke bars they have a happy hour during the week so you'll be able to enjoy the ambience and style for a lot less than you think. During peak times their prices will be different so you need to call or email to find out the price for your specific group.
