Dylan Jones has a new exhibition, entitled "Coming up for Air" and it is being held at Straightjacket Gallery in Newcastle between the 10th and the 25th of September - so if you are in the area, don't miss this beautiful exhibition of Dylan's new work.
Dylan is an artist I have followed for a number of years after I came across him painting in plein air, literally at the bottom of my street. At that time, he was painting bridges and structures. He enjoys form and the symmetry of structures. Since then, he has moved onto the human body, landscapes and more. There is no doubt in my mind that he holds considerable talent in his paintbrush as he makes his sweeping brushes over his canvases.
This exhibition is aptly named "Coming up for Air". I think we all have the sense that the last two years have been restricting and suffocating for all the reasons the pandemic could throw at us and many of us are indeed coming up for air, enjoying being out and about, having the opportunity to take in those broad scenes of tranquility and nature that surround us.
His new art work is full of these scenes and I love the way he creates such differing sensations with a sweep of his brush on a canvas the background of which may seem to be the same. Each one has a distinct and unmistakable aura.
