Dwellingup is an easy drive from Perth and is near Mandurah, so you can easily do it in a day. Dwellingup is a charming semi-rural country town with an atmosphere. It is set among pristine jarrah forest and water catchment areas and there is quite a bit to do for a small town; you can go canoeing and more outdoor activities in the natural setting of the Lane Poole Reserve along the banks of the Murray River. Dwellingup is one of the five townsites that the Bibbulmun Track passes through and if you are not familiar with this town, you can read a lot more about it here.

I used to live near Mandurah and Dwellingup was always somewhere I visited regularly as it is a quaint old fashioned town, where they also sell fresh fruit from the local orchards and farms. Once again, I am digressing as this article is actually not about Dwellingup but about the pumpkin festival that is held there!

is the place to bring your family and friends for a fabulous day out this Easter Saturday. You will be able to see some amazing giant pumpkins! In 2018, there was a new record made and this year, all the growers will be aiming at beating this new record.

This year, it will be held on Saturday 20th April 2019 from 10.00 am and it will be held at the Dwellingup Primary School, 10 Newton St, Dwellingup. This function is organised by the Dwellingup Primary School P&C and it has grown to be one of the largest events in the Peel Region, with crowds exceeding over 10,000 for the past two years.

The grand Weigh-Off will have plenty of other weird fruit and vegetables to look at with items such as the largest, smallest and strangest shape. There will also be a category for school grown and this will be contested by about 50 schools.

This will be a day of general fun apart from the pumpkins and there will be free entertainment for children. There will be such things as the fun Circus Challenge under the big top and the radical reptiles interactive experience as well as roving entertainment from Stunning Stilters.

There will also be live music for all ages, face painting, bouncy castle, petting zoo, pony rides, mini golf, giant chess and more. The laser tag area will also be back this year as it was extremely popular last year.

And of course, you will not go hungry here as there will be food vans at the event serving up both delicious savoury lunches and sweet treats. Visit the P&C Pumpkin Cafe for delicious, fresh soup and scones made of course with pumpkin! There will also be a sausage sizzle and burgers. Or if you are an early bird you can even get your barbecued bacon and egg burger for breakfast.

It is easy to get into this festival with your gold coin donation for parking at the multiple entries. Two entrances are at each end of Church Street, one entry off McLarty Street and one entry on Forest View Rd. Parking is available also on Dwellingup Oval, McLarty Street.

There will also be raffles and silent auctions available on the day, so do try your luck at these.

How big will the largest pumpkin be this year? Come on down to Dwellingup to see this amazing vegetable!
