Watch as they smash pumpkins for Guinness Book of Records
A pumpkin festival I hear you say! Yes, a pumpkin festival!
This time, it will be held over the Easter long weekend on 31st March, 2018.
This annual Pumpkin Festival is held in Dwellingup, and it continues to grow in popularity and gets bigger and better than ever! Last year's winner had a pumpkin that weighed over 220 kilos!
AND THE WINNER IS ...
The Pumpkin Festival is always a great day out for the whole family where you can come and see the grand "Weigh-Off Competition" where they weigh the giant pumpkins, as well as other homegrown abnormally large, and weird produce. Oh, and there are some rules for this!
A silent auction with heaps of great prizes to bid on including accommodation packages
And much more
Each year this Pumpkin Festival is organised by the Dwellingup Primary's P&C Association.
LAST YEAR'S PUMPKINS ARRIVING
Dwellingup P is about 30 minutes drive from Mandurah and is off the South West Highway in Pinjarra - this makes it an easy day trip for the family, however, as I once lived in this area, there is so much to do around here (see this article or this one for ideas of what to do in this area.
Stay for a few days at one of the many B & B places or there are even 5-star hotels in Mandurah where the family could stay. Or why not take the family camping at Lane Poole Reserve, and you can explore the highlights of Dwellingup which is a "quaint" little town - sleepy and friendly!
Dwellingup is a charming country town situated just 1˝ hours from Perth, or even closer from Armadale regions.
Dwellingup is one of the five towns that the Bibbulman Track runs through, and it is situated amongst a jarrah forest and water catchment area.
You can also go canoeing or do other outdoor activities in the natural setting of the Lane Poole Reserve along the banks of the Murray River.
At the Forest Heritage Centre, there is an 11-metre platform in the canopy of the jarrah forest, or you can take a ride in the famous old Hotham Valley Railway - I have done the evening dinner on this Railway, and it is fascinating as it meanders through the forests at dusk.
Make sure you are there for the giant pumpkin event - it is quite fascinating to see how large these can get to!
