Oh, dear reader, let us not consign the celebration of our dear mothers to but one saccharine Sunday in May. No, no - that simply won't do. For she who once spirited you through your teenage torment with infinite patience deserves far more than a hastily boxed chocolate or a petrol-station posy. She deserves Dusty.
Yes! From 5–8 June 2025, the Concert Hall at QPAC shall be gloriously transformed by Dusty The Musical - In Concert, presented by the splendidly spirited folk at Prospero Arts. This semi-staged spectacular is a loving reimagining of the hit musical that has beguiled audiences across Australia – a lush and lavish tribute to the inimitable Dusty Springfield, doyenne of the swinging '60s and possessor of a voice that could, quite frankly, melt glaciers.
And who better to step into Dusty's iconic beehive than the dazzling Amy Lehpamer, fresh from her triumph as Anne Hathaway in & Juliet? A performer of wit, grace, and power – truly, this is a casting to make the heavens hum.
Managing Director of Prospero Arts, Hayley Johnson, puts it best: “It’s full of the songs she grew up loving, and the story of Dusty’s life is both inspiring and deeply moving.” Quite so. Expect glamour! Expect iconic fashion! Expect a full-throttle live band under the nimble baton of Brendan Murtagh, with musical supervision by the esteemed David Young. It's a glorious cocktail of storytelling, sequins, and soul.
With tickets from just $89, this is an evening of elegance and emotion that needn’t empty your wallet. Think of it as a small investment in joy - yours, Mum’s, and that of the entire auditorium.
So, if you're looking to impress Mum - or simply want to bathe in the golden glow of tunes like “I Only Want To Be With You”, “Wishin’ and Hopin’”, “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” and, of course, “Son of a Preacher Man” – then this, dear friend, is your clarion call.
Dusty The Musical – In Concert: more than a night out - it’s a memory in the making.
