Candlelight, music, fragrance - where can I find Mr Tatum?
You could be in a brightly lit shopping centre, but when you enter Dusk it's dusk in there. By dusk, I mean that time of the day when the sun has just dipped below the horizon leaving the world in a muted blaze of colours as darkness slowly gains strength along the periphery. Sounds like sentimental poetry, but that's what Dusk is all about.
I could go all pithy and say they sell candles, pretty candles. However, I do believe there's more to Dusk than that. Le Desire sells pretty much the same merchandise. What sets Dusk apart is the ambience and the dusk theme. When you enter the portals, there is a definite change of mood accomplished mostly by the muted lighting and dusky tones. An emphasis on the deep orange and tangerine shades stops it just short of being completely earthy. Arrays of lit candles glow in the dark providing little points of yang to the yin. I've noticed that you tend to speak in low tones once you're inside.
It's a candle shop after all, but then they have a premium range that makes you wonder how anything so dainty and exquisite could come out of Perth - I mean, with the weather being what it is over there. Hand-poured premium candles are not the only things they have. Their range has grown to include superb décor products that show Oriental as well as European influences in addition to Australian.
Where there are candles, there will be candle holders and Dusk has them in a stunning assortment. Aromatherapy products claim to offer relief for almost everything except a mean mother-in-law. But then, given time, I'm pretty sure they'll come up with something. Right now they have a range for calming, concentration, harmony, relaxation, rejuvenation and more.
Diffusers that bathe your home with fragrances are another impressive creation. Then there are the mood creating fireplaces that come without the mess of an actual fireplace. So you have your candle light, the right soothing fragrance, and the warmth of a fireplace. What could be thrown in to complete the picture? Some music, perhaps? They've got that covered with a range of music to suit almost any mood. A bit steep at $30 a CD, but then if you paid for a fake fireplace, this won't be considered beyond the pale, now would it?
You can buy all of their lovely products online. Choose your candles, candle holders, music, fireplace, glassware, and gifts from the comfort of your home. But I don't know how far fragrance shopping will go unless, of course, you already know what you want. Dusk online shop has a What's New and Clearance sections, so you can be sure you're not outside the loop as far as products are concerned. They have a rewards program for loyal customers and you can join here.
Dusk is a purely Australian company operating out of Perth. They have about 90 stores and counting nationwide and about 21 in Victoria from Airport West to Werribee. Strangely enough, I haven't come across one in the CBD, but you'll find them in almost all shopping centres across Melbourne; just look for the flame-shaped d, or is it a d-shaped flame?
We absolutely adored your blog, thank you for the beautiful comments! Please feel free to get in touch at email@example.com as we'd love to hear from you. Thanks again from the entire Team at dusk!
