Dunstan Adventure Playground

The is an unusual find in today's safety conscious world. It's a playground that allows children to have some thrills and take a little risk while they play.
Equipment at the playground caters for a range of youngsters, with small slippery dips for toddlers right through to a suspension bridge suitable for teenagers. And be sure to check out the extra high slippery dip which is used by parents as well as their children. Just be careful with it as on very hot days you will toast your butt.
Adults are well catered for too, with shady trees, lawns, bench seating and tables if you want to picnic there. And for the anoraks among you who like trainspotting there are great views of the O-bahn busway, with buses flashing past at regular intervals.
The park is not in an obvious location or on a main road, so it is easily missed. And even when you do find it, it doesn't look that exciting from the road. But like the
Swing Bridge a few hundred metres away, appearances are deceptive.
There are some pretty easy rides for tiny tots as you enter the park, like the swing which slides along a rail, and the standard small slippery dips. Then there are some other things that I couldn't even name, but kids know what to do with them.
But older children will disdain all the kiddy stuff and head straight for the high slippery dip or maybe the suspension bridge. I must admit that I didn't try it as I had come fresh from my adventures on the Swing Bridge.
The is very appropriately named after SA's most adventurous and innovative Premier who introduced major social change in the seventies that would put the state ahead of all others nationally. He was responsible for introducing far reaching consumer protection laws, relaxation of censorship and drinking laws, recognising Aboriginal land rights, decriminalisation of homosexuality, and the appointment of females to the judiciary.
In his own way, Dunstan took the whole of SA on a slippery dip adventure that took years for the rest of the country to catch up on.
But enough of reminiscing and politics, you and the kids are probably exhausted and hungry after all that hard playing. So let me reveal that there is a
bakery a couple of streets away to reward yourself for all that fun. And no, I have no financial interest in it - I just
love bakeries!
