The Dungeon of Magic specialise in selling and promoting the collectable trading card game Magic: The Gathering where players, or planeswalkers, use cards to cast spells, deploy items and summon creatures to defeat their opponents.
For $20 you can purchase a pre-constructed deck with its own theme and specific strategy. Most decks come in a variety of two of the five different colours; five different types of mana to tap. Black comprises zombies and ghouls, nasty things. Blue relies on flying creatures and deceptive tricks. Green boasts the stronger beasts. Red deals in bolts of lightning and gouts of flame to directly damage the enemy. White emphasises protection, sometimes at an extreme cost but with spectacular results.
Magic regulars visit the store to tweak their existing decks. The Dungeon of Magic has a vast archive of cards from all previous expansions and releases. Looking for something in particular, you may find it here. If you want a bunch of random cards, with a chance to obtain a rare, buy some booster packs (foil packets with 15 cards each).
There are tables and benches to play casual games in-store too. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable, which is great if you need help to get started.
The Dungeon of Magic also host special events. Friday Night Magic is a booster draft where players sign up via email or phone, pay $15 entry and construct a deck from cards dealt at the table. This style of play is exciting. Make sure you bring your own card sleeves. If you win the tournament the prize is the special cards from the draft. Excellent value for money.
